Norah is TWO?!

this past weekend we celebrated Norah's 2nd birthday. we kept it really simple, just our immediate family, some pizza, a "purple animal cake" and lots of fun. i'd like to get all the pictures from the party up but it will probably wait until this weekend. her actual birthday is tomorrow, and we're having another (VERY) small celebration tomorrow night. i'm making her favorite dinner (spaghetti) and we're having a little more cake and she's opening her presents from mark and i. i can't wait!

here's a short video from sunday. we all thought it was so funny that she knew to blow out the candles on her own :P

someone's turning two!

little mouse's 2nd birthday is in 20 DAYS! i cannot believe it. i will be totally cliche and say that it feels like i just got done planning her 1st birthday but it really does. especially since the holiday season always flies by! but now that christmas is over i am in full-on party planning mode.

the most fun part of birthdays (for me) is present-giving! we try to keep christmas simple so that we can spoil norah a little more on her birthday. after all, her birthday IS about HER and christmas is not. here are a few things i've had my eye on and that i know she would love:

4. wheely cow (large)
7. rabbit and raccoon puppets

while we don't have the means to get her all of these things (and even if we did, i wouldn't get it all. as much as i love to buy things for norah i just can't justify going too crazy.) a few people had asked me for ideas on what to get her. if you're out there reading - just pick off this list! ;)

makin' it monday // footprint mural or - A HUGE MESS!

on saturday we had a warm afternoon so i wanted to get outside and try a "footprint" mural. what started out as innocent feet stomping soon developed into full body mural painting.

needless to say, we did not make a footprint mural this week. we just made a MESS! however, the fun we had was well worth the paint in our hair and all over our arms and legs.

to make your own mess mural, you will need:
- kraft paper (or poster board, newspaper, construction paper, etc.)
- finger paint
- shallow tupperware containers
- toddler who likes to get messy

simply roll out the paper in the grass and squeeze some paint into the containers. hold your child's hands and help them step into the paint, then stomp all over the paper! also, hope that they don't love to smear paint all over their body like mine does ;)

here's how our afternoon went:

nice and innocent feet stomping

hands too? ok no big deal

uh oh

really, norah?

i guess we'll be needing a bath

wow

doing "home alone" // "look sky! paint!" - actual quote

high fives for daddy

and again

so much fun

:) :) :)

i guess she still didn't think she was messy enough...  ::side eye::

"i like it!"

this is the new phrase being constantly uttered in our house. norah tried a salt and vinegar chip the other day, proclaimed, "I LIKE IT!" and now every time she tries anything, she says "i like it!" again. i love how much more expressive she gets as she grows a little older each day. she is speaking in sentences and is able to communicate her wants, needs, and OPINIONS pretty clearly. this age is so much fun!

right now, the constant repetition of this phrase is the cutest thing ever. but ask me again in a week, i might not feel the same way ;)
