24 months old

NORAH - 24 MONTHS

stats :
height: 34 in
weight: 26 lbs
shirt size: 18-24m/2T
pants size: 18-24m/2T
shoe size: 5
teeth: 16 still, no new ones yet

fun things right now :

- norah has full on conversations with her toys. so stinkin' funny!
- she loves snuggling with us in our bed and watching movies. and when i say watching movies, i really mean she watches the intro to a movie and then asks for a different movie, watches that intro and asks for another, watches that intro and asks for another, and so on...
- she has become very helpful with chores. she likes to feed the dog, "sweep" the floor, set and clear the table, and put away her toys. she especially likes to help me cook and bake!
- she's very interested in music. she loves to play piano and she loves to sing and dance.

favorites :
color: purple
food: fruit snacks, waffles, macaRONI, yogurt, broccoli
song: "kickin' song" which is bruno mars - locked out of heaven
toy: probably her picnic set she got from her uncle matt for christmas. it's played with daily!
book: brown bear brown bear what do you see? - eric carle
movie/TV show: the little mermaid :)
thing to do: have a picnic, play piano, color

babycenter's milestone chart for 24 months:
mastered skills (most kids can do)

names at least six body parts - definitely
half of speech is understandable - i'd say about 90% makes sense
makes two- to three-word sentences - all the time!

emerging skills (half of kids can do)

talks about self - non stop haha
arranges things in categories - she lines up her cars and horses in a "parade," separating the cars and the horses. i guess that's sort of arranging in categories?
can walk down stairs - she goes down backwards on her belly. i'm too scared to let her try the big stairs. if it's just a couple steps i hold her hand and she can get down.

advanced skills (a few kids can do)

begins to understand abstract concepts (e.g., sooner and later) - starting to understand, but not all the way there yet
becomes attuned to gender differences - she can tell the difference between a boy and girl, a man and a lady
learns to jump - she hops :)

26 before 27

inspired by elsie of a beautiful mess (here and here), i decided that i too would make a list of goals for myself for the next year (my 26th birthday was on the 9th). some are pretty ambitious and some are just for fun. either way i'm excited to grow and see where i'm at a year from now!

what would be on your birthday goals list?

22 months old

NORAH - 22 MONTHS

stats :
height: 32 in
weight: 24 lbs
shirt size: 18m to 2T
pants size: 18-24m to 2T
shoe size: 4-5
teeth: 16! 8 on top and 8 on bottom

fun things right now :
- norah has a new hobby...hiding. the best part? she doesn't even actually HIDE anywhere! her version of "hiding" is standing/sitting in the same spot she was already in and simply closing her eyes. sometimes, she'll use her hands to cover them. usually the "hiding" is a result of mark or I telling her it's time to do something she doesn't want to do (i.e. get a diaper change, blow her nose). she's wack.
- still singing like crazy! she knows the alphabet and she has her own versions of wheels on the bus, twinkle twinkle little star, baa-baa black sheep, and itsy bitsy spider.
- she learned that a stop sign is in the shape of an octagon, so whenever we're driving she likes to point out all the "ocka-gons"
- she has started talking to her babies or animals in the same way mark and i talk to her. tone, specific phrases, everything. it's actually kind of creepy haha but it makes me more conscious of how i'm speaking to her and the words i'm using!
- she is becoming extremely picky with what she's wearing. i've created a monster!

favorites :
color: purple
food: noodles, hands down. luckily she'll eat them in a variety of ways so at least i can get veggies in her too
song: ABC's and "piano songs" which is anything by regina spektor :) :) :)
toy: still her babies. santa is going to be bringing her a crib and high chair for them, plus some other little accessories :)
book: "quiet, loud" by leslie patricelli and all the pip and posy books
movie/TV show: BRAVE! it's a new favorite ever since we got to do a review/giveaway a couple of weeks ago :)
thing to do: "toysa-maaahmee?" (toys with mommy) she is in a stage where i have to play everything WITH her. it is extremely sweet, but it leaves me a very small window in the afternoon during her nap to get anything else done. if i try to leave the room she freaks and if i bring her with me she stands literally ON my feet. ugh.

babycenter's milestone chart for 22 months:
mastered skills (most kids can do)
kicks ball forward: yes, and sideways hehe
follows two-step requests (e.g., "get your doll and bring it here"): yes, pretty good with this

emerging skills (half of kids can do)
does simple puzzles: yes. she likes the ones with little pegs to pick up the pieces
draws a straight line: uhh, sort of i think. she draws A LOT but it's more like she's drawing lines over and over. it's not necessarily straight on purpose. make sense?

names several body parts: yep! everything on the face and main parts of the body (arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, toes, belly/belly button, back, hiney, cooley)

advanced skills (a few kids can do)
puts on loose fitting clothes: i've only ever seen her put her poncho on by herself. not sure if she can do sleeves or pant legs!
might be ready for a big bed: we've actually talked about converting her crib sometime soon! maybe after christmas
understands opposites: i know she knows the difference between big/small and hot/cold. maybe some others too!

20 months old

norah 'turned' 20 months old this past sunday. i've seen other bloggers do updates/stats on their kiddos, sometimes monthly, sometimes just a couple times a year but i always enjoy reading them. maybe you guys will too? either way it's more for my own memory's sake. it's so easy to forget all the little details about only a few months back. the months tend to run together, at least in my head. this can serve as a record for me and if it's entertaining to my lovely readers? bonus! can you tell i have permanent mom-brain? i need all the records/evidence/memory boosters i can get ;)

now for the update!

NORAH - 20 MONTHS

stats :

height: 31.5 in
weight: 23 lbs
shirt size: depending on the brand, anywhere from 18m to 2t. my main concern is just keeping that pot-belly covered!
pants size: again, depending on the brand (and if she is wearing a cloth or disposable diaper) either 12-18m or 18-24m.
shoe size: 4
teeth: 6 on top and 6 on the bottom...with FOUR coming in right now. poor peanut.

fun things right now :
- she repeats every single thing we say. everything! even if we say "i love you, norah" she says "i love you, norah" right back to us. it's hilarious! her vocabulary is growing in leaps and bounds and i am continually impressed by her understanding of the world around her. it amazes me that i could show her something one time and two weeks later she points that same thing back out to me when we see it again. her mind is a little sponge! aside from learning new words every day, she is also speaking in short sentences and starting to ask us questions.
- singing singing singing! it's definitely her new favorite hobby. her favorite songs are ABC's, the itsy-bitsy spider, and wheels on the bus. she doesn't have all the words down but she's got the tune. i love hearing her sing what she interprets the words to be even if they are totally wrong. it makes it that much cuter!
- she can count successfully to 10 and sometimes further, though more often than not it goes 1-10, "elenen, telve, AY-TEEN! huhRAY!"
- she knows all her colors and common shapes (square, circle, triangle, heart, and star)
- she is starting to really use the potty! she still wears diapers everyday but she is telling me when she has to go (most of the time). when she is successful we do the potty dance and she gets an m&m!
- she makes funny faces, gives the "hi sign," and shows us where her mustache is when we ask her.

favorites :
color: pink (much to my dismay! hehe) but she also likes red and yellow.
food: probably waffles. she asks for them most mornings and sometimes for lunch too.
song: ABC's definitely. and also when we're in the car she asks for the "ooh oooh ooh" song, which is really the middle east's "blood"
toy: this is hard. if i had to guess i'd say either her babies (this could be any baby doll or stuffed animal. to her they're all her babies) with their blankets and bottles, or her play kitchen. she loves putting her "babies" down for a nap (covering them with blankets) and feeding them their bottles. she also loves making us "soup" in her kitchen. and waffles of course.
book: "what's wrong little pookie?" by sandra boynton or "potty" by leslie patricelli
movie/TV show: kung fu panda. close seconds are monsters inc. and sesame street. unfortunately for my sanity, she also still likes yo gabba gabba (though she only gets to watch it at mom-mom and pop-pop's house since i can't stand it!)
thing to do: blow bubbles outside! i think if i were to let her blow bubbles all day long she totally would. that, and swing on the swings at the park. my arms get SO tired pushing her!

babycenter's milestone chart for 20 months:
Mastered Skills (most kids can do)
feeds doll: yes...she feed dolls, stuffed animals, mommy and daddy, the dog...everyone.
takes off own clothes: not really. she can take her arms out of her sleeves but i have yet to see her take an item of clothing completely off (besides shoes)
dumps an object in imitation, such as throwing garbage away: i wouldn't call it imitation, because i can tell her to throw something away and she will. she does imitate other things i do like spreading peanut butter on toast, which she does in her play kitchen. "peeba budder! toast!"

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)
learns words at a rate of ten or more a day: easily!
can walk up stairs (but probably not down): both, though down is much more nerve-wracking for me so i usually try and hold her hand. if my hands are full she slides down the stairs backwards on her belly.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)
may start exploring genitals: sometimes, yes. usually only when going potty or having her diaper changed. she will point to her front or back and say "cooley" or "hiney" but thankfully she does not PLAY with these areas.
draws a straight line: ehh not yet. she colors like a fiend but her lines are far from straight. she can draw circles though but not just one. if i ask her to draw a circle she just makes a circle shape over and over on the page.
names several body parts: yes! she knows all the parts of her face, plus arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, toes, and belly/belly button (plus cooley and hiney.....)
